In the fall of 2010 I went to a house concert where Ellery was playing. There were snacks, Christmas lights and wine. It was lovely. At the time I was in the middle of writing "A Strange Brand of Happy" and when I saw Tasha and Justin perform together, I instantly knew I wanted their sound in the film. They have an authentic tone that I was trying hard to put into the script.
Fast forward to 2012, we met for lunch and I discovered that what you see and hear on stage from Ellery is what you get from them in person. Tasha and Justin are humble, funny, good people who happen to be great musicians and lovely poets. I am so proud that their song, "Where It's Going," plays a big part toward the end of the film. The line in the chorus, "This isn't over yet," (and title of the album) will get stuck in your head and humbly remind you to press on regardless of where you're at in your story. A good reminder for me personally.
"This isn't over yet. This isn't half of what you'll get." Amen.
