PRESS RELEASE

April 29, 2013 – For Immediate Release

Cincinnati-based Movie Lands Theatrical Distribution in 42 Cities

Rebel Pilgrim Productions will release the faith-friendly romantic comedy A Strange Brand of Happy in theaters on September 13, 2013. The film, directed by Brad Wise, stars Joe Boyd (Hitting The Nuts), Grammy Award winner Rebecca St. James (Suing the Devil, Sarah’s Choice) and Academy Award winner Shirley Jones (Elmer Gantry, The Partridge Family). The movie will initially open in 42 markets through Integrated Media Associates, a Los Angeles-based distribution company.

The film was written, produced, shot and edited entirely in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is also set in the Queen City. “We wanted this movie to be a love letter to Cincinnati,” says Brad Wise of Pleasant Ridge, the film’s writer and director. Joe Boyd, the film’s producer who resides in Liberty Township agrees, “We’re serious about making movies in Cincinnati. It’s a new day. You don’t have to be in Hollywood to make great films. You just need great material and great people…and that’s what we have right here in our hometown.”

The President of IMA says, “We are extremely pleased to be working with Rebel Pilgrim on the theatrical distribution of A Strange Brand of Happy. We feel it to be a fresh, engaging film with a faith foundation that’s different and will have broad appeal. It is very Office Space meets Napoleon Dynamite.”

Wise says, “We wanted to make a movie that felt like a night around a campfire with good friends laughing and asking the big questions in life. ” The company is partnering with Seatzy.com to release the movie in as many markets as possible. “We have a limited release of 42 screens booked for opening weekend, but through Seatzy.com we are able to open any other market by offering ticket pre-sales through a crowd funding model similar to Kickstarter.com,” says Boyd. According to the movie’s website, the film will open in any market where 500 tickets are pre-sold. The producers are counting on a word-of-mouth grassroots effort to open up more theaters.

The producers are planning a Cincinnati world premiere in September. Currently the movie is scheduled to show locally in theaters in West Chester, Miami Township and Florence, Kentucky.
